Hair pulled, slapped, forced to say sorry — all on the road. ABVP workers beat a young man in Surat in front of traffic police. The shocking video is now going viral and raising big questions.
High-voltage drama was seen on the streets of Surat’s Athawalines area on Sunday after ABVP workers publicly assaulted a young man, accusing him of ‘love jihad’. The entire incident was caught on video and has gone viral on social media.
According to ABVP, the youth was allegedly harassing and stalking a college student for a long time. ABVP Joint Secretary Shubham Singh Rajput claimed that the girl is the sister of an ABVP worker and that the youth was warned several times to stay away.
On Sunday, when the youth was spotted near Athawalines, ABVP workers surrounded him and allegedly tried to explain the issue. When he refused to listen, the situation turned violent and he was beaten up in public.
The most shocking part of the incident is that the assault took place in the presence of traffic police. The viral video shows the youth being pulled by his hair and collar and beaten, even as he apologised with folded hands. Police personnel were seen making only a weak attempt to stop the attack.
So far, no formal complaint has been registered in this case. ABVP has defended its actions, calling it an act of self-defense against harassment, while the incident has raised serious concerns over law and order in Surat.
